Max Cash selling guide

Can You Sell a Financed Phone?

A phone can be physically unlocked, carrier locked, financed, or subject to an account balance—those are related but different things. Max Cash can consider financed devices, but the status must be disclosed accurately before the transaction.

Financed is not the same as carrier locked

Carrier lock status describes whether the phone can generally use another carrier’s SIM or eSIM. Financing describes whether money may still be owed under an installment agreement. A phone can be unlocked and still have a financial obligation, so one status does not prove the other.

Tell the buyer what you know

Send the exact model, storage, carrier/unlocked status, condition and whether you believe the phone is financed or paid off. If ownership or status needs additional verification, a Max Cash representative will tell you what is needed before the transaction.

Ownership still matters

The seller must have the legal right to sell the device. A valid photo ID is required for Max Cash transactions, and stolen or fraudulent devices are never purchased.

Get the offer before you drive

Financed status can affect whether a device is accepted and what it is worth. Disclose it during the quote so the offer is based on the actual phone before you decide whether to book the Virginia Beach appointment.
